Silk
- Wash your silk garments separately, as dyes may bleed from the garment.
- Perspiration, deodorant and perfumes degrade the fabric; therefore, it is common for silk garments, especially light ones, to chaff, split and shred.
- Keep silk garments away from contacts with alcohol based products such as: perfumes, hair spray or nail polish remover, as they leave stains on silk.
- If you spill something on a silk garment, never rinse it with water; instead take the garment to dry cleaners immediately.
- You can hand-wash silk garments without linings or any attached embellishments in cool water with mild detergent. They should not be twisted or wrung as silk fibre gets weaker when wet. Roll the item in a towel and gently squeeze it to remove water.
- If a label on a garment states it can be washed in a washing machine, insert the garment into net bag and never use chlorine bleach.
- Air silk garments on a hanger or lay flat until damp dry.
- Iron silk fibre while it is damp, with warm iron from the wrong side until it is dry, but make sure iron does not “spit”. Use a cloth or a towel when ironing from the right side.
- Don’t use plastic bags for storing silk, instead store silk garment in cloth bags, away from light and insects.
Jeeves at Your Service
Since silk is a very delicate fabric, Jeeves recommends keeping silk garments in acid-free cotton bags wrapped in tissue paper, to avoid yellowing. Jeeves makes sure acid-free cotton bags with acid-free tissue paper are available in different sizes for purchase in Jeeves stores.
